- Size
- 220 g · about 50 hours, Ø 8.0 × 8.6 cm
- Vessel
- Slip-cast stoneware from Stoke-on-Trent, fired to 1,240 °C. Glaze: heather, a dusty plum-grey. Glazed inside so it can be reused once the candle is finished.
- Wax
- British rapeseed wax and Perthshire beeswax, 70/30 by weight. Undyed.
- Wick
- Flat-braided unbleached cotton, sized to each vessel and burn-tested over twelve four-hour burns.
- Fragrance
- 9% fragrance load, composed with an independent perfumer in London and blended in Edinburgh. Compliant with the IFRA 51st Amendment standards for candles.
- Care
- Trim the wick to 5 mm before every burn. Burn for no more than four hours at a time.
Burning and care
- Trim the wick to about 5 mm (¼ in) before every burn.
- On the first burn, let the melt pool reach the edge of the vessel: about 2½ hours for 220 g, 3½ for 400 g.
- Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time.
- Keep away from draughts, children and pets, on a heat-resistant surface.
- Stop when about 1 cm (½ in) of wax remains.

Contains Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool, Limonene. May produce an allergic reaction.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Burn on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts and anything that can catch fire. Don’t move the candle while it’s lit or while the wax is liquid. Dispose of contents and container in line with local regulations. If you have a known sensitivity to any of the ingredients above, don’t burn it.

Why Rowan smells the way it does
In Scotland you plant a rowan by the door. The old belief was that it kept witches out. The practical result is a small tree that turns scarlet with berries in September, just as the evenings start to close in.
Rowan is our autumn candle and we pour it only once a year, in a single run. It opens tart and a little bitter, which is what the berries are actually like, then goes into a dark, jammy rose and the green snap of blackcurrant leaf. Guaiac wood, which smells faintly smoky and sweet at once, carries it to the end.
When this year’s batch is gone, it’s gone until next September.
