Two coastlines, one on each side of the country. The Firth of Forth, where a cold sea fog can roll into Edinburgh in twenty minutes on a warm day. And the machair of the Outer Hebrides, the flowering grassland behind the beaches that blooms for a few weeks every June.

Haar is salt, wet stone and ambrette, cool and mineral with a trace of warmth underneath. Machair is marram grass, clover and orris, bright and green without turning into cut grass.

Both are poured into haar, a pale sea-grey celadon glaze flecked with iron.

Haar 400 g lit and Machair 220 g unlit, both in pale sea-green stoneware, on a slab of dark slate with smooth grey pebbles, against a pale plaster wall.
