- Size
- 400 g · about 80 hours, Ø 9.6 × 10.4 cm
- Vessel
- Slip-cast stoneware from Stoke-on-Trent, fired to 1,240 °C. Glaze: slate, a speckled charcoal. Glazed inside so it can be reused once the candle is finished.
- Wax
- British rapeseed wax and Perthshire beeswax, 70/30 by weight. Undyed.
- Wick
- Flat-braided unbleached cotton, sized to each vessel and burn-tested over twelve four-hour burns.
- Fragrance
- 9% fragrance load, composed with an independent perfumer in London and blended in Edinburgh. Compliant with the IFRA 51st Amendment standards for candles.
- Care
- Trim the wick to 5 mm before every burn. Burn for no more than four hours at a time.
Burning and care
- Trim the wick to about 5 mm (¼ in) before every burn.
- On the first burn, let the melt pool reach the edge of the vessel: about 2½ hours for 220 g, 3½ for 400 g.
- Burn for no more than 4 hours at a time.
- Keep away from draughts, children and pets, on a heat-resistant surface.
- Stop when about 1 cm (½ in) of wax remains.

Contains Limonene, Linalool, Benzyl Benzoate. May produce an allergic reaction.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Burn on a heat-resistant surface, away from draughts and anything that can catch fire. Don’t move the candle while it’s lit or while the wax is liquid. Dispose of contents and container in line with local regulations. If you have a known sensitivity to any of the ingredients above, don’t burn it.

No. 02 The story
Why Canongate smells the way it does
Halfway down the Canongate there used to be a bookbinder who kept the door open in summer. You could smell the workshop from the street: glue, leather offcuts, paper that had been stacked for years, and from the kirk across the road, whatever had been burned at the last service.
Canongate is built around frankincense, the silvery Omani grade, which smells more of lemon peel and cold stone than of anything sweet. We put it over an accord of old paper (dry, slightly vanillic, a little dusty) and let leather and benzoin carry it through the last hours of the burn.
It’s the candle for a desk, a reading chair, a room with too many books in it.
